Kaafila tells the story of a group of people who are travelling illegally to the UK. The film focuses on how they fall prey to an unscrupulous agent who creates circumstances that send them into hiding, somewhere in Eastern Europe for nearly six months. Left to fend for themselves, they discover a new way of living life. As they endure many hardships, little do they know that death awaits them as they take every step forward to their destination in this tensed thriller. This movie is said to be inspired by the 1996 Malta boat tragedy, which claimed the life of over 290 people on Christmas Day. The tragedy occurred when 283 immigrants out of 450 from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh were transferred from the Yiohan to another boat. This film stars Sunny Deol and Pakistani actresses Sana Nawaz and Monalisa in lead roles. The advertising for this film is so misleading! Couldn't get thru 50 minutes of this filmic atrocity. Deol only enters about halfway thru the flick. And if you're expecting a realistic portrayal of the hardships South Asian immigrants, legal and illegal go through, forget it. Completely inappropriate song inserts, a ridiculous plot that throws in the Russian mob, stolen plutonium, the Taliban and what not. A travesty... |
